Treetrunk #017 [k.m. krebs - the jade furnace I]
“The Jade Furnace I is the first in an undetermined number of albums that will be released on Treetrunk Records. The name is derived from a Taoist alchemical metaphor that denotes the space in which the great work of alchemical transformation takes place. I have always felt a very strong resonance between the process of creating music and the symbolism and metaphors of alchemy. This album continues my own exploration of the similarities and possibilities between the two.
This series of works is peculiar in that they are intended to occupy a space between ambient albums and sample CDs. I want to encourage you to experiment with it in ways you may not consider with most musical recordings you encounter. Play it on random, play several copies on random simultaneously. Play it slowly, backwards, through effects, or any combination of those. Also, I strongly encourage other musicians to sample, deconstruct, and re-use these recordings in their own music. I only ask you credit me and would, of course, be interested in hearing the results of your work.”
