Candy #026 [kapten ka - the pumpkin festival]

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

candy026.jpg“With a trapped spirit and a unhealthy love for music, Kapten Ka is giving us wierd and beautiful lofi-electro-nica-pop filled with dangerous melodies, screaming beats, unhappy voices and…pumpkins.

This is the first in a quadrology of EPs from the gastronomous Pumpkin festival where Kapten Ka unleashed his 36 tracks in front of a stunned and hungry audience.”

  1. the pumpkin festival “For thousands of years, people have set aside a day to celebrate the autumn harvest, giving thanks for a plentiful growing season. For Kapten Ka the harvest celebrations are culminating in the statewide Pumpkin Festival where he sells pumpkins and CDs after his gig.”
  2. another race “This morning Kapten Ka is writing stories about different races, but suddenly something happens and he throws away his papers and runs for cover…”
  3. living in red “If You’re thinking of living in red, think twice! There are so many other colours and besides, red fluorescent living has a vivid red fluorescence making it ideal for multiple labeling with enhanced green fluorescent living variants.”
  4. team satan “‘Each and everyone can make crop circles!’ at least according to Kapten Ka. He joined Team Satan during the cold war and has continued to make at least four crop circles per year.”
  5. bush not welcome “Bush wants to come for a visit, but he is not welcome…”
  6. things “Music computers are crashing again and again, nothing works as it should and Kapten Ka is pretty upset.”
  7. shave my legs “Shaving is a personal decision. It’s very normal for women to have dark or thick hair on their bodies. It doesn’t need to be removed unless it really bothers you. If you feel very strongly about shaving you might want to try to talk to your parents about your concerns at a time when nobody feels rushed or distracted. You can explain to them that you feel uncomfortable with some of your body hair, that shaving is not a sign that that you are ‘growing up too fast.’ You might also want to ask them to understand how important it is that you feel comfortable with your body and how shaving will help you feel more comfortable.”

Kahvi #184a-184f [thomas jerome newton - neglected transient quirks]

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

ntq_lrg.jpg“A guest artists once again, with probably the longest name and strangest title we’ve seen as yet. Thomas Jerome Newton, hailing from the UK, has his roots in the early 90’s and all the tracks reflect that - they’re fun, amusing, interesting, quirky (hence the title) and generally something a little different to listen to. Enjoy the ‘granny samples’ of Ansatape to the more idm styled Friashift. Take a careful look at the track titles also and see if you can figure out what they mean! Welcome, Thomas.”

  1. ansatape “the infamous granny samples make an appearance - giving a character all of their own to this track from the very start! kind of semi-retro demo scene styling indeed.”
  2. warengine “in the good old classic orbital style, lots of beats with the classic off key semi leads that were popular in the early 90’s. a great tribute to that era.”
  3. 6equj5 “not entirely sure why Thomas would have chosen this exact sequence of letters and numbers. Slightly more mellow than the last, kind of a ‘cool rave’ track (?).”
  4. lemurs “nice flowing leads and fast beats feature heavily in this track. could be classed as a kind of ‘anthem style’”
  5. friashift “a perfect example of using tuning of certain sounds in real time and it certainly works well. interesting as for a technical point of view for some, and entertaining for the rest!”
  6. airyspheroid “perhaps my favorite track from the whole ep - you could of imagined that this would have been one of those ‘rave hall’ fillers in the old days, as soon as the flutes start, screams fill the room and people get on down… ;)”

MN #012 [VA - movin on]

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

mn012_cover.jpg“we are all surrounded by layers of sounds. it does not matter if they are machine-generated noise or the ones of nature, but all of the sounds around us have their own unique tonalities and rhythms. while some just take them for granted, these artists here find them fascinating and construct music out of the pieces of the best moments of the sounds they encounter.

scenes change, and so do sounds. whatever the scene you may be into now, this is something for you to listen to. this is minimal at its best. you do not have to think about the concept or how the pieces are constructed as the musicians here have already done that for you. you can just let it flow wherever you may be at.

so we now present you our second compilation album as we are ‘movin on.’”

LCD #077 [noise relations - acid love EP]

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

noiserelationsep.jpg“Noise Relations comes to us from Poland with his first release on LM classically titled Acid Love. This album entails a laid-back loungy mood of aural passages to induce one’s visions off into an evening travel through an interstellar nebulous of electrofied mellowness. All tracks are on a chillout type of state except for ‘Break The Core’ which veers off into an adrenaline drum and bass tangent.

This nice set of downtempo space chillout is perfect for downloading, buring on a disc, and enjoying it while driving on a countryside or cityside with the moonroof open, and one’s mind set into a drifting noise relational soundstate.”

A&E #06.04 [colt - self titled]

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Colt.gif“Three guys from western germany, who celebrate ‘alternative-music’. Inspired by the sub-pop-sound Colt are a guarantee for fat guitars and chilling rock. In 2005 they recorded their songs at Jangland-Studios in Hannover, helped by the former ‘Eat No Fish’-guitarist. A great idea we think. Now you can listen to their songs in between their concerts. Those of you who missed their gigs with ‘Union Youth’ or ‘Myballon’ relax: There are more concerts to come and we will keep you informed.”
