SEL #019 [doggs - japanese space centre]
“‘Japanese Space Centre’ is the first LP by Doggs (Leon Barnett and Richard Mark Harrison). It’s the follow-up to ‘Carnivore Hamster Doll EP’ released in 2006 on Animal Fact.
But Doggs used to be called Dogs, and they made several releases back then, most notably an LP called ‘Spankmeijer’ on their CD-R label, Fakey2Records.
‘Japanese Space Centre’ is all about moving forward though, perhaps moving forwards and backwards at the same time. Soundwise it is bleak, dense, simple. Emotionally it is excitable, tired, funny, sad, optimistic. This album could be considered an ambient/noise/space opera. Though I’m not sure about it being operatic, the noises are made with feeling. It is heart over head music.’ R.M.Harrison”
