“As the most radical of art forms, electronic music lends itself to the staging of ‘counter-worlds. It is art for art’s sake, l’art pour l’art – it does not represent or picture anything (‘mimesis’). Electronic music opens the listener up to something that ‘transcends man, the subject, or the person’ (Cox). Based on this aesthetic program, on his debut album Dominik Paß sets out to draw abstract soundscapes which, intractably captivating, seek to transcend the realm of the ordinary (hence the title, transcendere), and to carry us off into the strange, abstract world of electronic music: ‘all light sheer [...] blank’ (Beckett). Some tracks verge on the border of silence, which like Beckett’s writing they attempt to fathom out. On the other hand, rich in harmonics ‘Engel (Transgress)’ leaves the inner-worldly behind, while bulky tracks such as ‘Delta’ swayingly take us elsewhere: They construct spaces which cannot – but yet do – exist in real reality!”
