CAM #095 [pocka - a heartsick lovesong]

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

“What better then when the leaves fall and the autumn blues kick in, then to listen to this beautiful ep by Kikapu owner Brad Mitchell, aka Pocka, who seldom releases but when he does, offers exquisite and powerfull pieces of ambient / field recordings (check his pleasedosomething and nishi releases). A heartsick lovesong is just as the title implies ; carefully drawned pieces of sorrowfull and epic moments that either show the darker ravines of consciousness or the warmer, soothing side of introspection and soul searching. A definite netlabel masterpiece, Brad not only shows us his great technique (this is a live recording) but also his vulnerability to all things that touch us, which makes this album subtle and filled with humility, yet, also heroic. Cover by Adnan-Alin Vasile & Felix Petrescu.”

Bump #011 [dj kirill - project cuba]

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

“Latin House tracks from Pete Kirill! It is a collaboration with Cuban music group ‘Sin Palabras’. The music has been described as very accessible electronica with minimal down tempo beats and hot Cuban percussion (and vocals). ‘An excellent fusion of house and world - the buena vista social club meets mark farina…danceable and infectious’. “

RAR #004 [derek scott - tomorrow EP]

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

“After a nice summer break, and a successful release from Yan Ots, Random Access is ready to come back full strength with our next offering which is from west coast techno veteran Derek Scott. Derek Scott aka The Rhythmist is from San Jose, California and has set standards with his releases on commercial labels: Silent Records, Trax Cafe Recordings, and Resource Records. and has also delivered goods on netlabels such as; Seedsound and his own very well respected Dobox Recordings. Dereks production is strongly influenced by the classic Detroit techno sound and offers pure musical abstractness with deep and shuffled grooves, layered with abstract textures, and funky, disjointed melodies that one could say has has a futuristic quality to it. This one is entitled the ‘Tomorrow EP’ and as the name suggests; each track fuses futuristic sounds with hinted retro style percussional arrangements. Derek just comes with his usual hard driven, straight to the point, in your face, hard nose techno. So go grab this foot-stomper/head-banger if you dare. This is coffee with no cream or sugar folks.”

HL #018 [Ocaixi - Jove carn japonesa]

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

“Hails from Osaka, Japan. Isuzu Kochiwa (founder of japanese post noise group ‘Amok’) brings us this album of short experimental pieces, a homage to 18 different painters which all tracks are named after. Isuzu uses his computer, voice, samples and different acoustic elements. creating microsounds, layered scapes and total psychedelia. its nice listening to how some of your favorite painters sound like inside Kochiwas brain.”

STMNET #006 [VA - automaton]

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

“for ‘consumer vs. user remixed’ accomplished composer, performer and sound designer andrew duke provided samples from his recent release on californias phthalo for anyone to use in the production of an original song. with the support of respected software companies such as ableton, m-audio, native instruments & audiomulch, the results of the creative interpretation and re-interpretation of the source material by the artists invloved was outstanding. the canadian based netlabel stratagem could not have had a more diverse and innovative collection of music for its sixth release. with artists such as tomas jirku (riversof, force inc., traum, tuning spork, mille plateau, klang), hrdvsion (wagon repair, itiswhatitis, traum, subpop), and naw (clevermusic, noise factory), the release spans a wide variety of electronic music genres from the abstract and minimal to the melodic and experimental.”

Miga #012 [paper - detalles]

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

“The better way to start the new electronic season is with [Miga12] ‘Detalles’, the new work released from Paper aka Pablo Bolivar, from Santander (Spain). He follows with his compromise with different netlabels, after the big internacional success made with his first LP called ‘Anjanas’ (Regular, 2006).

This release is a very personal and faithful reflection of Paper sound, space deep, acid grooves… in sum, four tracks transmitting beyond the dancefloor, taking us to the deepest dreams of digital pads…”

Kahvi #190 [planet boelex - live at netaudio london 06]

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

“Kahvi is honoured to welcome none other than Planet Boelex to the Kahvi shores. After hearing numerous great releases from other netlabels, Planet Boelex came over to London to perform a live set at the Netaudio Festival in Islington. All the usual qualities are there, epic sounds and textures with the that much polished vibe that we get to hear in Esems works. A fantastic, 53 minute audio journey into Boelexs works and back.”
