PS #014 [eightfish - spectacular optical]

Posted in Breakbeat, Chiptune by bleepwatcher

“A new pxtone native format release from Eightfish has been released. Mixing smooth chips, sci-fi vocals and wicked breakbeats, the 4 tunes featured are almost schizophrenic, but or more or less 4 different thoughts in the same head. Special points go to those that recognize the theme of the EP. The required player/editor (freeware, no installer) is available at the page on top of the cuts section.”

Tr #025 [LĂĄgrima - Trayecto imperfecto de un viaje inacabado]

Posted in Acoustic, Alternative, Minimal by sergi

EEDFM #005 [milieu - sun white sun]

Posted in Ambient by bleepwatcher

“Suffused with milieus inimitable, breathy, organic sound and virtuosic studio technique, Sun White Sun is another exceptional set of sound sculptures from a true master of the genre. Thick with harmonic resonances, at times it conjures waves of parched heat rolling off the ground, and others, a placid ice floe, seemingly motionless in space. It is the refraction of light through a diamond, viewed through a dreamy and communicative ether.”

Mfm #01 [Kurver & Eskei - Briefing]

Posted in Electro by sergi

phplhvxtbpm.jpgBriefing is the “first transmission” of memory format.
There’s no info about this release in their page, but there’s some info about Eskei:

“Eskei is about trueschool hiphop in the 21st century, sounding glitchy & electronic while maintaining that good ol’ boom bap flavour and a pinch of gangsta mentality. Making this kind of music was a concept born in my mind back in the nineties, but due to many reasons, it didn’t become reality. However, now i’m able to do my thing the way i want. So stay tuned motherfuck**s, cause it’s time to bring the rawkus…”

Diginet #007 [donner & moscatello - molotow]

Posted in Acid, Electro by bleepwatcher

“Our first post-summer release comes from the duo of Berlin djs/producers Martin Donner and Giovanni Moscatello, in the form of the massive acidy/electro tune “molotow”. On the flip, the mix aims for an equally bangin but more detroity approach, bringing upfront the acid elements of the original, replacing the bass line but always retaining the peak time clubbing appeal of the track.”

Treetrunk #018 [mystified - trash Everest]

Posted in Ambient, Experimental by sergi

trasheverest.jpg“I am interested in some sonic ideas. One idea is to take something small or ordinary and make it sound much larger than it is. Kind of like the principle George Lucas used when he glued together hundreds of model kits to make his original “Death Star”. Another is to pursue textures and surfaces, and I am especially interested in pieces where textures and surfaces continue to shift.

“Trash Everest” involves these ideas and more. A single bag of trash was used to create ever-shifting layers of sound. Paper and aluminum were the two main ingredients– castaway objects any one of us could obtain at any time.

Think of some of our most incredible technological advances and I can also point you to some tremendous heaps of trash– where there is a workable system there were dozens that preceeded it which no longer function. Sometimes I wonder if we aren’t making of this planet a giant Mount Everest of trash.”

foton #006 [Object - Remote review]

Posted in Breakbeat, Experimental by sergi

foton006_tourmidi1.jpg“First in a series of three Object EP’s released in digital format. Peter Van Hoesen’s experimental alter ego cranks out four tracks of high-res machine blues. Whether it’s mutated breakbeats striving to release themselves from a layer of insistent soundscapes (’Gordon takes a break’) or semi-acoustic sounds arranged in a deceivingly minimalist manner (’Folk Four’), in every song the listener is confronted with a skewed logic of composition. If there is a strategy to the EP, it’s one of unexpected twists and turns. ‘Renewed Strength’ sounds like Autechre on speed on a rainy day whereas ‘Kmt-y Statement’s’ fragmented techno groove explores various repetitive possiblities. Both present their beauty in the oscillation between linear and cut-up - a musical language taking the listener into a rich and varied sonic space.

The visuals for the Remote Review EP are based on pictures of Brussels’ Zuidertoren/Tour du Midi/South Tower.”

Tng #1009 [David Szczesny - Stapes VI-VII EP]

Posted in Ambient, Experimental by sergi

tng1009_cover.jpg

“The newest release on AudioTong comes from one of the most interesting young Polish musicians – Dawid Szczesny.

His music is based on samples of old records, tapes and field recordings. It’s ambient-like structure and feeling makes you want to press the ‘repeat’ button as soon as you start listening to the recordings.

Szczesny’s debut album on Supralinear offshoot label of Mille Plateaux(“Unheard Treats”) was highly acclaimed by the magazines and listeners in whole Europe, the EP we’re presenting now on AudioTong is at least as fine as his previous releases.

These two pieces are continuation of a project started on an EP for (1.8)sec-records. They are all never-ending loops, created to be played live, with different timing, in different configurations.

Each of them might be listened either as a never ending loop or a finished piece itself.

The whole idea of using long, apparently simple loops, is to make a listener perceive each sound’s repeatability and principle, which is different at every performance, depending - in some way - on accident.”
