Red #011 [coldicus - def.mno]

Posted in Experimental, IDM by bleepwatcher

“First music production trials started in 1997. Seven years of searching and changes in music preferences led to his first release on netlabel Otium in 2004. The album name is ‘Nord Splin’ and it was released under the moniker Coldcat. In 2005 he had another two releases under the name Coldicus, his current artistic name. Ilyas musical preferences are presented as a vast array of styles but his most favorite are ambient, downtempo and idm. His own productions author defines as ‘couch music’ or ‘music for the ears’.

coldicus about this release: I think to say nothing able, this was my experimental work, because I anymore write other music a bit, it wanted to make an attempt that to new… I am pleasant that an experiment was succeeded.” [editor: luckily, music is a universally understood language. :)]

Cam #097 [xedh - composition in red]

Posted in Uncategorized by bleepwatcher

“We’d like to welcome you to the new year with one of our most ambitious releases to date, Xedh’s Composition in red. Clocking just under 24 minutes, Miguel A. Garcia gives us motion, enhancing and pushing the limits of perspective, leaving prudence and opening the listener to unpredictable movements. In a constant struggle for balance, Xedh explores mathetmatics and cognitive logic on one side and pits it against nature and harmony. The result is an abstract brawl for domination, as you can discern the organic tissue from the synthetic in their collisions. There is an uneasy, but raw, universal beauty to this track, like throwing paint on a wall with rage and watching it trickle down. Composition in reds dichotomy, dynamic and intrigue is both sonic and visual, and it feels like you’re bearing witness to the creation, and destruction, of a Pollock or Rothko.

Also included in this release [within the compressed archive], is a 4 part video release, directed by Sara Paniagua, and she rightfully explores Xedh’s music with compassion, distance and romanticism. She melds chaos and staticity into one hour of recordings; including a walk in the woods, a choreographed presentation and various visual experimentations.”

BKK #024 [project oracle - voices of oblivion]

Posted in Ambient by bleepwatcher

“Project Oracle is a side-project of the well know Helian band (already on Benekkea series named Nevskia).

Danny (Adam One), the head behind these two bands, creates a long journey into the oblivion of our mind. Deep, dark, all consuming imaginary atmospheres which is destroying a fragile man lost in a dreaming and foggy paradise. Thousand of thoughts and voices flow across the eyes and the ears of a soul haunted and lost in its oblivion. Classic dark ambient elements as bells, low frequency drone, orchestral instruments meet industrial, glitch, cyclic metal sounds, create one of best Benekkea release of ever. “

BKK #025 [deviated sister t.v. - the coming of the 1st generation]

Posted in Uncategorized by bleepwatcher

“The Deviated Sister T.V. was born in Ovada (AL, Italy) in 2004. On June 2005, they recorded their first self-produced mini-cd: The coming of the first generation (now on cdr for Benekkea). On March 2005 Aleph and mAlice collaborated with Claudio Dondo (Runes Order) for the track ‘We have made a religion!’, and this collaboration will certainly continue in the future. Inspirited by the industrials fathers (SPK, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Einsturzende Neubauten, etc) and by the new power noise electronics (Merzbow, Converter, Hypnoskull, etc), their sound is disturbing and rhythmic at the same time. The hate / love for the sister television is the central theme of D.S.Tv. In this mini-cd there is a concept about the first generation of televisions, that invaded the earth through the control of the televiewer mind, like alien cathodic worms, that remind to Lovecrafts creatures, Mathesons stories and fantascientific films of 50s / 60s.

On December 2005, DSTV participated to a contemporary-art show, (Raccolta indifferenziata) with music and images, in collaboration with the association Nazca Project. They participated with music and performance to the theatrical shows ‘Il mysterio dei misteri (I e II)’ (2004-2005) and ‘La notte dei templari’ (2006) directed by Gian Piero Alloisio.”

NSI #011 [the upside-down me - the art of war]

Posted in Experimental, Noise by bleepwatcher

“Alberto Dattilo, who records as The Upside-Down Me, hails from Calabria, in the southern part of Italy. He titles this release ‘The Art of War’, which hearkens back to the Sun Tzu text on military strategy from circa 500 B.C. Yet this work is no tired tome on maneuvers or business genius. The album does not dwell on the damaged chariots of the past, nor the hyper-modern death gliders of the future, but upon the contradictions, survival strategies and defeats of the flower war we call living.

So many times experimental musicians divide into the warring camps of noise and melody. The Upside-Down Me combines both strains on the field of chivalry for a jousting tournament which proves entirely satisfying. In a time when Satie, artificially adopted as the grandfather of ambient, has come to be given the reverence of a museum piece, the Art of War gives an original Satie-like attention to compelling melodies in the midst of atmospheric pads of intriguing light noise.

Boris Spassky defeated the stalwart Tigran Petrosian in their rematch, to become the chess champion of the world, until Bobby Fischer, in his turn, defeated Spassky and then melted down in a tragedy of Icarus-like proportions. The piece ‘Spasskij’ gives us neither challenger nor champion, but instead the thrill of the play–the complexities of the opening, and the inevitable calculation of the endgame. The king topples, or the position is drawn. ‘Wake Up/Make Up’ evokes that ultimate survival strategy in the war which is love.

Noise and melody are the lion and the lamb. Mr. Dattilo, who has studied his art history, knows that in our dreams they lie down together. The result is a fascinating blend of the acoustic and the electronic, and of the pristine tones of song with the necessary drones of noise.

We are pleased to release the Upside-Down Me, who, in turn, has helped blaze a new way for netlabels with his new group to help netlabel fans come together, Netlabels NET:

We believe that he comes in peace, and that these pieces may transport you to pacific wars among friendly stars. Is it a mirror of the world? Sadly, perhaps not. But let his interesting sounds be a mirror within your mind, until the day when all the wars are of the imagination only.”

VRW #003 [ambahjak - t-piece]

Posted in Breakbeat, Drum & Bass by bleepwatcher

“drum n’ bass album based on fast old school breaks , euphoric happy melodic elements and sometimes harder trance sounding basses . catchy tracks and a couple of surprises are included. the album starts with an inviting feel-good piece, passes through darker spaces with ‘battery concise’ and gets to the first climax when the very clever drum and percussion programmed ‘leach clock’ kicks in. hard attacks, compression and heavy bass drums keep it intense the whole 5 minutes, while track four, ‘this is control’ is more of a downtempo loopy structure seen melodically, but with lots of sound color changes . the best comes at the end: an oldschool sounding prodigy influenced track, perfectly reminding us of those clubbing events we all visited some time ago.”

birdsong #019 [uncle owen aunt beru - spaces in time]

Posted in Experimental by bleepwatcher

“Uncle Owen Aunt Beru are actually one person named Jessica. She makes music like journal entries, capturing her ideas and impressions of earth and other planets onto her multi-track recorder. In her spaceships luggage compartment one can find different specimens of an earthly nature and frozen experiences collected in her travels. Uncle owen Aunt Berus album is a careless experiment with simple melodies, crude sounds, Jessicas voice and the captains log. “
