DT #013.5 [renegade android - self-titled 2nd edition]

Posted in IDM by bleepwatcher

“Originally released in 1999, this is a re-master with subtle changes made. Includes 4 bonus tracks, one of which is a remix from B57 aka Brodie Guy of CPUWar fame. Here’s a bit more about the original, taken direcly from dtrashrecords.com — ‘The style of his single DTRASH release isn’t easy to sum up but we would probably call it FX-driven post-Warp hardcore for relaxation.’

This is a pretty accurate description of Renegade Android’s (aka Shawn Shackelford) sound. Don’t let the rather cheesy name fool you, this is genius work.

This is an angry Aphex Twin, pushing his toys to their limit.

Infamous breakbeats morphed beyond recognition, simple (yet catchy) 3 or 4 note melodies, abrasive distortion, overflanging, high-pitched electro bass drums, complicated beat sequencing and sick 303s are all part of Renegade Android’s own little world.

Every sound on this record seems to be made out of metal, solid or liquid.

All is chrome and steel; percussive sounds are like banging cans and melodies feel like cold liquid silver running through your veins.
