RB #008 [astrowind - somewhere the music had been played]

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

“After two amazing releases (The Night The Stars Flew/Electrosound & Into Vernadsky/12rec), Astrowind come up with another great 7-track-EP.

Deeply influenced by german krautrock, Somewhere The Music Had Been Played puts you in a warm blanket and let you float in time and space. This deep harmonic athmosphere guides you through the complete release.

From the first track soft bubbling synth-patterns and soundscapes take you by the hand and let you forget time and space around you. And leave you after 35 minutes in a calm and peaceful condition.

By the way: The whole EP was recorded during a live improvisation on soviet-era analog synth and desktop FX. An exciting example of creating music together spontaniously.”

AH #018 [ophibre - reference]

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

“Set to stand alone with a strong physical presence is Ophibre’s REFERENCE. This sonic sculpture communicates through complex interconnected paths that breathe as natural forces allow them to adapt. The track begins with a prickly textural abstraction, both organic and mechanical, and then continues to a melodic and psychedelic outgrowth of the original movement.

Unified by layers of recordings the first half of REFERENCE is shaped by the experiences of the past, not directly representational but guided by spiritual and intellectually developed sonic imagery. The floating quality of atonal noise creates a moving mirage of thoughts and memories that are shifted and refracted through the second movement. The melodic movement solidifies the references to the past as it allows for meditative tones to set a common focus that acts as a guide to self-awareness.”

Micro #001 [gas - gas 0095]

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

“Due to overwhelming demand, Gas 0095 has been remastered and re-released into the wild. This first release on the new microscopics label has been a much sought after item for collectors everywhere, fetching up to $460 on eBay. Painstakingly remastered at 32bit/96khz from the original studio tapes, with a luxurious 32db dynamic range, which in these days of hyper-compressed music is pure oxygen.”

ARH #022 [minus - micro]

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

“Minus is Daniel Stanciu, a 21 years-old Romania-born computer science student. He’s been making tracks for a few years, trying to focus on the emotional aspect of music– rather than its technical side. Style ranges from 8-bit and old school electro to dub, down tempo and ambient music with vague references to math, fuzzy childhood memories, and old video games.”

I/O #029 [phasen - moving on]

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

“Moving On is the fourth release from Phasen. This album includes seven original tracks and remixes of songs by Mkd and A Soil Horizon. As for the content of this album, Phasen says it represents the roller coaster of stress and emotions he experienced transitioning from his childhood home to a life of his own in college. Anticipation evolved into despair, which finally gave way to the happiest times in his life.”

RB #004 [adrián juárez - caleta uno]

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

“Adrián Juárez was born in La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

He studied piano for seven years and then he got close to other musical instruments in an intuitive way. Besides his role as an artist he’s in charge of Frígida Records netlabel where he edits music by artists from all over the world.

In his large output he comes near a long genre list, but on the two ‘Caleta’-Volumes he celebrates 4 calm, tranquil ambient tunes. Slightly vibrating soundscapes and soft drones guide the listener through over 90 minutes of deeply emotional music.

So close your eyes and put your headphones on.”
