NCP #014 [hermetic sound - melody scenes]

Posted in Abstract, IDM by bleepwatcher

“Hermetic Sound surprise us with their latest net-release. Vastly different from the house and drum & bass tracks we were used to from them, this release is an intelligent mixture of hard driving beats, sonic experimentation and provocative samples. Sweet and luscious melodies bring light and hope into the dark and claustrophobic ambiances achieved by ruthless complex rhythms and oppressive sounds.”

BRD #005 [roostex - red wine fire]

Posted in IDM, Techno by bleepwatcher

“Red Wine Fire is an album that has to be heard to be properly understood. Sharp synths and elaborate counter melodies tie together hard hitting IDM and dance beats. Not only does the album have strong instrumentals, but several of the songs feature dark, humorous lyrics. Without a weak song on the album, Red Wine Fire is an album we’ve been excited about for a very long time. He’s the king.”

DTRASH #101 [knar / mr genetor - split CD]

Posted in Breakcore, IDM by bleepwatcher

“Our longtime brotha KNAR (who released the Neo Industrial Zombie disc on D-Trash in 2000, not to mention having tracks on 2002’s DHR Don Fuck With Us 3xCD compilation) throws it down with some new material, this time bringing MR GENETOR to the table for a head to head battle of out-there harsh breakcore/IDM sounds between these two up and coming Canadian digital hardcore/noise artists. MR GENETOR confronts with crunching and jolting disorienting beats — Yet KNAR’s fuzzed out melody driven beat rhythmics drive you into an electrocuted hypnosis.”

I/O #029 [phasen - moving on]

Posted in Ambient, Electronica, Glitch, IDM by bleepwatcher

“Moving On is the fourth release from Phasen. This album includes seven original tracks and remixes of songs by Mkd and A Soil Horizon. As for the content of this album, Phasen says it represents the roller coaster of stress and emotions he experienced transitioning from his childhood home to a life of his own in college. Anticipation evolved into despair, which finally gave way to the happiest times in his life.”

ES #031 [k.d. expression - anachromantic]

Posted in Ambient, Dub, IDM, Post-Rock, Techno by bleepwatcher

“Sergey Yakimov from Ekaterinburg, also known as SM and Deadline (as he regularly appears on various ES releases), recorded his most mature album at the moment. Starting with psychedelic techno with crystal-clear synthetic melodies it continues with deep and warmer themes full of syncopated beats and rich ambient dub forms.

And, at the end of the road, we get 6 meritorious remixes, performed in a broad style range: idm, downbeat and the astonishing post-rock apotheosis.”

WAW #003 [mithra - nightmare's death]

Posted in Breakcore, Drum & Bass, Experimental, IDM by bleepwatcher

“Mithra is our first accompanist on our journey to the top of the netaudio-universe ;) and it seems he knows what WaW is all about!

His record is like a nice troll, jumping around you, wanting to make you dance, and sometimes he tries to look evil, pushing you around a bit, until you lay on the floor and can’t help but laugh. Because you know, this troll is good-natured, just having fun with you, so you get up and follow him, leaving the hills of stubborn coolness behind.”

GZR #005 [digita'lis/phlox - the drummondii days]

Posted in Ambient, Breakbeat, IDM by bleepwatcher

“The Digita’lis/Phlox project is Erich Ward and Shawn Shackelford and took place between 1999 and 2001, including a brief tour from the mid-west to the east coast with Chicago-based IDM artist The Flashbulb. Their release, ‘The Drummondii Days,’ is a collection of abstract broken-beat rhythms, 80’s analog synth manipulations, and heavy compression techniques for a unique lo-fi quality. This release includes the classic ‘A Shape of Strange Faith’ track, it’s remix by The Flashbulb (explicit), and our take on something called the P1 Project.”

IO #018 [mark.nine - artificial horizon]

Posted in Ambient, Downtempo, IDM, Lofi by bleepwatcher

“The long awaited original full length album from Mark is here. Filled with dark, strange and beautiful melodies, this album is sure to make you think, as the mysteries lie further than just the album cover and the music itself. Unusual lo-fi style beats and downtempo style pieces help put together this release from Mark. “

DT #013.5 [renegade android - self-titled 2nd edition]

Posted in IDM by bleepwatcher

“Originally released in 1999, this is a re-master with subtle changes made. Includes 4 bonus tracks, one of which is a remix from B57 aka Brodie Guy of CPUWar fame. Here’s a bit more about the original, taken direcly from dtrashrecords.com — ‘The style of his single DTRASH release isn’t easy to sum up but we would probably call it FX-driven post-Warp hardcore for relaxation.’

This is a pretty accurate description of Renegade Android’s (aka Shawn Shackelford) sound. Don’t let the rather cheesy name fool you, this is genius work.

This is an angry Aphex Twin, pushing his toys to their limit.

Infamous breakbeats morphed beyond recognition, simple (yet catchy) 3 or 4 note melodies, abrasive distortion, overflanging, high-pitched electro bass drums, complicated beat sequencing and sick 303s are all part of Renegade Android’s own little world.

Every sound on this record seems to be made out of metal, solid or liquid.

All is chrome and steel; percussive sounds are like banging cans and melodies feel like cold liquid silver running through your veins.
